Conflict presents itself in many guises. The drug wars in the Mexican border town of Juarez, the world’s homicide capital, take an obvious toll through the deaths of thousands each year. However, this deadly battle has more subtle consequences on the US side of the border, including the development of narcocorridos: music that glamorizes the violence and luxurious lifestyles of the gangsters.
In his upcoming film “Narco Cultura,” filmmaker and photographer Shaul Schwarz lays bare the stark contrast between the two sides of the story through the lives of two characters – crime scene investigator, Rich Soto, and Narco Corrido singer/songwriter, Edgar Quintero.

Adam Thomas is a former civil rights activist, now kitchen designer, husband and father, living near Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. His family home is in the path of High Speed 2.
Yesterday afternoon I met Adam at the office and showroom of the kitchen design company he works with. He invited me along to the The Lee, where throughout the summer months, parents bring their children to exert energy, socialise, and network. The sun was out, after what seems to have been the longest winter, and people were having fun. It was cool to see the Chilterns as I used to when I was smaller and a lot more active, whilst also getting to know Adam and his daughter, Cara. Today, Adam kindly let me into his home to record some audio and take a few more photographs.
I’ve spent little under 3 hours with Adam, yet the amount he has offered me and let me into has been incredible and warming. I’ll start creating a multimedia piece next week.
